The Center For Disease Control (CDC) performs unannounced inspections, which are conducted twice a year and required for any cruise ship with an international itinerary calling at a U.S. port. Vessels are evaluated proper food handling, preparation and storage procedures, and overall galley cleanliness. Ships’ potable water supplies used in spas and pools are evaluated, as well.

Carrying 922 guests and 545 staff members, Crystal Symphony is less than half the size of mass-market mega-ships. Yet at 51,044 tons, it is large by luxury-ship standards with considerable space dedicated to innovative spa and learning facilities, exciting entertainment options, creative dining options, spacious decks, generous amenities, and sumptuous staterooms.

Crystal Symphony began sea trials in February and was delivered to her owners in April 1995. On May 3, Crystal Symphony was christened by Godmother Angela Lansbury in New York Harbor. Crystal Symphony set sail for her 25-day Grand Maiden Voyage cruise from New York to Los Angeles.

Following a $23 million dry dock in 2006, Crystal Symphony emerged with a dazzling new nightclub, a complete redesign of its main entertainment deck and a decidedly sophisticated and contemporary style. Crystal Symphony’s comprehensive refurbishment, its largest ever, has transformed all staterooms and bathrooms, completely reconstructed a social lounge and casino, refashioned boutiques, shops and its famed Bistro café, as well as dozens of behind the scenes improvements.

Crystal Symphony received more enhancements in June 2012. Makeovers include the Avenue Salon, Palm Court, Hollywood Theater, Galaxy Lounge, Bridge Lounge, and the Fantasia/Waves kids areas.

A September 2014 makeover included a redesigned indoor and outdoor fitness center, a more open layout for the Crystal Plaza and Cove Bar on deck 5 and newly refreshed décor in the Crystal Spa & Salon and Bistro Café.
