Florida has joined the rest of the states in the Gulf of Mexico region in requiring a license for onshore saltwater fishing.  Currently, only a license for offshore fishing is required. The new requirement will go into effect on July 1, 2009. The license will cost $7.50.

Venice Municipal Fishing Pier at Brohard Beach

1600 Harbor Dr. at the south end of Venice Island

This 84-acre park has a shoreline along the Gulf of Mexico, a bait shop, the Venice Municipal Fishing Pier, restrooms and picnic areas. It is a dog friendly beach and is know for great bird watching. There is limited parking and no lifeguards on duty. Located at  the southern end of Venice Island. 

El Jobean Pier

Located SW of Venice on State Road 776. El Jobean, FL 33953 941-743-2425. Restrooms.

Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier in St. Petersburg

Located just off I-275 on the way to St. Petersburg and Tampa.

Jetties

South Jetty

Located at the end of Tarpon Center Drive, this area has a rocky scenic area with a small beach. The jetty is a great place to fish, picnic, or people watch. There is a quality concession stand (Anita's Sandcastle) and restrooms available. There is also a popular restaurant at the marina, just before the jetty.

North Jetty Park

1000 Casey Key Road, Casey Key, Nokomis

A popular surfing beach, it offers swimming (lifeguards on duty year-round), fishing, a bait shop, canoeing, picnic shelters concession stand, restrooms, horseshoe courts and volleyball court. Located at the south end of Casey Key.
