Azamara Quest Engine Room Fire

Update April 1, 2012

Azamara Quest arrived at Sandakan (Sabah), Malaysia, on April 1, 2012, at approximately 9:23 p.m. local time.

Update: March 31, 2012

Engineers onboard Azamara Quest have been able to restore propulsion to the ship

Azamara Quest is now sailing directly to Sandakan (Sabah), Malaysia at between three to six knots. Based on this speed, the ship will arrive in Sandakan within 24 to 48 hours. The CEO of Azamara Club Cruises will be flying to Sandakan to meet with Azamara Quest guests and crew personally. Five crew members onboard the ship suffered smoke inhalation during the fire and are being treated at the medical facility onboard the ship.

The remainder of the voyage has been cancelled. Stay tuned for an update on Monday, April 2 by Azamara regarding future sailings.

Engine Room Fire

According to a statement by Azamara Club Cruises,

On Friday, March 30, at approximately 8:19 p.m. ship time, Azamara Quest experienced a fire in the engine room. The fire was contained to the engine room and was quickly extinguished. There were no injuries of guests reported and the atmosphere aboard is calm. The ship is currently running on generator power until full power can be restored to the engine room.

Azamara Quest was built in 2000 for Renaissance Cruises as R Seven. After the bankruptcy of Renaissance Cruises, she sailed for Delphin Seereisen as the Delphin Renaissance from 2003-2006. She sailed for Pullmantur Cruises who renamed her Blue Moon in 2006.

Discoveries Restaurant

Open seating in the main dining room. You'll find all your classic dinner favorites, with a deliciously different twist, like gulf shrimp with cognac and garlic or a filet mignon with black truffle sauce.

Windows Café

Casual dining main buffet. Choices change daily and include fresh sushi, stir-fries and pastas, salads, smoked lox and other cold fish, a carving station and sumptuous desserts. Cuisine also features around-the-world buffet that changes regularly.

Aqualina Restaurant ($)

Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Starters including seafood bouillabaisse, lobster-asparagus salad, and wild mushrooms with parmesan and white truffle cream. Main courses may include seafood paella with saffron couscous, black truffle and mushroom risotto, and rack of lamb. Save room for Grand Marnier Souffle or Crème Brulee. Reservations only. Suite guests complimentary, other guests $25 per person.

Prime C Restaurant ($)

Traditional steakhouse serving melt-in-your-mouth steak in a sumptuous dining room.The menu includes steaks in a variety of cuts cooked to perfection, along with starters like crab cakes with remoulade, lobster bisque, wedge salad with bacon and blue cheese, and more. Other entrée choices may include lamb, pork, veal chops, game hens and seafood. Reservations only. Suite guests complimentary, other guests $25 per person.
