Azamara Journey Propeller Damage Cuts Cruise Short

posted February 26, 2014

Azamara announced on Facebook today that the Azamara Journey would end its voyage in Kyoto, Japan, instead of Shanghai, China due to propeller damage first noticed in Tokyo. The Journey will remain in Kyoto for two days and guests will disembark on March 2. Azamara will provide air transportation to Shanghai for passengers and provide hotel accommodations until guests are able to resume their schedule.

In a release, Azamara said the damage was caused when sailing into Tokyo, a cable floated up and struck the vessel. The Journey will need an emergency drydock to fix the propeller and propeller shaft. The vessel can still operate safely but is moving at half-speed.

Guests will be refunded for the days missed and be given 25% off their next Azamara cruise. Azamara will be in touch with guests scheduled for the March 3 sailing from Shanghai. The CEO and VP of Operations are flying to Kyoto to meet with guests.
