Itinerary

The Koningsdam sails from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it homeports at Port Everglades and spends the winter season exploring the Caribbean. She then repositions to Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy and sails Baltic and Norwegian Fjords itineraries during the summer season. Visit Holland America for a complete schedule.

The Center For Disease Control (CDC) performs unannounced inspections, which are conducted twice a year and required for any cruise ship with an international itinerary calling at a U.S. port. Vessels are evaluated proper food handling, preparation and storage procedures, and overall galley cleanliness. Ships’ potable water supplies used in spas and pools are evaluated, as well. High Tea

Three distinct tea-time themes: Traditional Dutch High Tea provides a classic sampling of desserts and cakes with tea and coffee. The Indonesian Tea Ceremony harkens to the culture of many of the ship’s crew with courteous service and traditional attire along with local tea varieties and sweets from the Indonesian Archipelago. And the whimsical Cupcake Tea serves 12 types of decadent cupcakes.

Culinary Arts Center

State-of-the-art demonstration kitchen offering interactive gourmet cooking lessons taught by HAL Master Chefs or culinary guests. The Culinary Arts Center features some of the world’s leading chefs, cooking show hosts, vintners and cookbook authors conduct classes and contribute to special menus. At the heart of the Culinary Arts Center is an innovative show kitchen outfitted with multiple plasma video screens to capture fine details close up.

The Digital Workshop powered by Microsoft Windows

Guests will be able to show and tell" their vacation memories, learning how to share all their digital memories through email, blogging and social networking - so friends and family can see where they've been cruising even before they return home. Free workshops taught by Microsoft-trained "techsperts" make it easy and fun, even for novices.

Chef's Table ($)

Nieuw Amsterdam features the intimate Master Chef’s Table in the Pinnacle Grill that includes an exclusive dinner menu for up to 18 guests who will have the opportunity to experience fine dining at its best. Each meal is enhanced with specially selected wine pairings by the ship’s sommelier. The evening includes seven courses served on signature Versace china, each personally delivered by a special culinary expert who will be the evening’s host. The cost for a Master Chef’s Table evening is $89 per person.

Kids Only

Club HAL® - Kids

Children, ages 3-7, can participate in such activities as story telling, fabric painting, indoor games, ship tours, arts and crafts, charades, Uno®, drawing contests, ice-cream sundae parties, bingo or a farewell pizza party. A colorful, expanded playroom  with art tables, big-screen TV, puzzles and games (children must be potty-trained in this area - no pull-ups).

Club HAL® - Tweens

Tweens, ages 8-12 might learn golf putting, have disco parties and theme parties, participate in the award-winning National Park Service Jr. Ranger Program on Alaska cruises, compete in on-deck sports events, compete in scavenger hunts or simply play Ping-Pong with a friend.

After Hours

Club HAL® After Hours is available on all ships (except the ms Prinsendam) from 10:00pm - 12:00am.

There is a fee per child, per hour. Parents must pick up their children on time or a late fee is charged.

For babysitting outside of the hours offered in Club HAL, guests may check at the Front Office to schedule this service provided by staff on a voluntary basis only. 

 

Teens Only

The Loft and The Oasis

Teens, ages 13-17 will especially enjoy the teen disco, dance lessons, video games, teen sports tournaments, card games, trivia contests, bingo, movies and videos.

The Oasis

Follow a special passageway upstairs from the Loft to find the private entrance to The Oasis, a secluded teens-only sun deck.

There is plenty of space to relax and socialize, as well as comfortable lounge chairs and hammocks, a nine-foot high water fall, cave and wade pool to cool off from the sun, and a state-of-the-art sound system.

The 99,500-ton vessel accommodates 2,650 guests and is the ultimate expression of Holland America Line’s brand evolution. Koningsdam debuts several innovative concepts and new public spaces and venues while still featuring popular amenities guests associate with the cruise line. Guests will delight in new fine-dining options at alternative restaurants Sel de Mer, a French seafood brasserie, and an immersive farm-to-table concept dinner experience in the Culinary Arts Center, presented by Food & Wine magazine. Grand Dutch Cafe debuts onboard with traditional Dutch treats and European beer, while a redesigned Lido Market with themed serving stations revolutionizes the buffet experience. A stunning main dining room is a focal point of the ship, and favorites return such as Pinnacle Grill, Canaletto Italian restaurant and pan-Asian Tamarind.

Onboard entertainment will be taken to a new level with the energetic Music Walk area featuring all genres of music showcased in venues including Lincoln Center Stage, offering chamber music nightly; Billboard Onboard, where live musicians rock the crowd with chart-topping hits; and the popular B.B. King’s Blues Club in the Queen’s Lounge, bringing the best of Memphis music to sea. With the 270-degree LED projection at World Stage, new concepts for show-time performances will immerse the audience in panoramic visual and sound effects.

Dining & Entertainment

Deck 2 will showcase several of the ship’s dining venues along one central promenade. In addition to the Main Dining Room, guests will find the Culinary Arts Center, alternative venues the Pinnacle Grill and Sel de Mer — the new French seafood brasserie — and interactive displays presenting icons of the food and wine world.

A central bar area overlooking the atrium enables guests to check in for their alternative-dining reservation at a hosted central podium, relax with a pre-dinner cocktail and peruse the menu before ordering prior to being escorted and seated at the restaurant.

With Holland America Line’s As You Wish dining,  guests can select the restaurant venue and style they prefer, from fixed dining to open seating or casual meals throughout the ship.

Interactive displays showcasing icons of the worlds of food and wine line the entry to a favorite place on all our ships, the Culinary Arts Center presented by Food & Wine magazine, re-imagined to include a new restaurant and an expansive chef’s kitchen.

Near the top deck of the Atrium, is the new Grand Dutch Cafe. Guests can stop in for a fine pale lager or favorite coffee drink and grab a light snack in this whimsical setting inspired by Dutch architecture.

Main Dining Room

The main dining room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner for guests looking for a more formal dining venue, menus offer a variety of options, including Greenhouse Spa selections.

For breakfast, guests may choose a personalized omelet or one of several international favorites including the Dutch breakfast of uitsmijter, a classic open-faced sandwich with sliced ham, Gouda cheese and two eggs sunny side up; a full English breakfast with bangers (sausage), baked beans, eggs and a grilled half tomato, or a Japanese meal of hot miso soup, broiled salmon, steamed white rice, tamagoyaki and hot green tea.

Lunch features a selection of signature items such as salad nicoise with grilled salmon, chicken pesto Panini and cilantro and mint crusted tuna.

The five-course dinner menu showcases everything from soups and salads to quail with apricot bread stuffing, ginger grilled chicken with mango lime relish and halibut with roasted corn salsa and plantains.

Terrace Grill

The Terrace Grill is a casual poolside eatery serving burgers and fries and other grilled favorites, plus a selection of healthier choices including wraps, Paninis and pita sandwiches.

Grand Dutch Cafe

Near the top deck of the Atrium, is the new Grand Dutch Cafe. Guests can stop in for a fine pale lager or favorite coffee drink and grab a light snack in this whimsical setting inspired by Dutch architecture.

Slice Pizzeria

The popular Slice pizzeria serves whole pies and slices to order. Among the featured pies are margherita, shrimp and mussel rustico, quattro formaggi, and prosciutto and arugula.

Pinnacle Grill ($)

The Pinnacle Grill offers a sophisticated and memorable dining experience for a $10 charge per person for lunch and $29 for dinner. Guests may choose to dine on Dungeness crab cakes, filet mignon featuring Sterling Silver beef, grilled veal chops or lobster bisque with aged sherry. On every voyage, the Pinnacle Grill offers "An Evening at Le Cirque" for a unique taste of Sirio Maccioni’s legendary New York restaurant. The price to dine is $49.00 per adult, per evening.

Sel de Mer ($)

Intimate seafood brasserie (French word for brewery) offering a contemporary take on timeless French classics such as Salt-Crusted Whole Fish and Bouillabaisse.

Tamarind ($)

Featuring panoramic ocean views, the Asian specialty restaurant reflects Asian culture and cuisine by emphasizing nature’s basic elements: water, wood, fire and earth. Dinner at Tamarind is $20 per person, while lunch is complimentary.

Canaletto ($)

Guests can savor classic Italian fare with casual tableside service at Canaletto, located adjacent to the Lido Restaurant dining area. Named for the famous 18th-century Venetian artist, Canaletto’s dinner-only menu includes traditional seafood, pasta, and meat and veal dishes. Lunch is complimentary, but dinner is $10 per person.

In-Stateroom Service

Rounding out the dining options is the complimentary In-Stateroom Dining service. Guests can order off the daily menu during dining hours or from a daytime and 24-hour menu with an extensive range of selections from light snacks to hearty dishes.
